Media Services FAQ

What equipment is available to rent?

Video cameras, still cameras, lighting kits, tripods, audio equipment, cables, tablets, and external hard drives are available to rent. Faculty may also rent laptops, LCD projectors, webcams and audio headsets. Read our rental policies or make a reservation online.

How long can equipment be rented for?

The maximum length of your rental time depends on what year you are in school. Freshmen and sophomores can rent equipment for up to three days. Juniors and seniors can rent for up to five days.

How do I request AV support for a campus event?

Click here to go to the EMS system where you can request audio/video services for your campus event (microphones & PA systems, LCD projectors with laptops and screens, videography services, etc.). This equipment is typically delivered and set up by a Media Services technician.

NOTE: Three days’ advance notice is required for Media Services event support requests and advance notice of at least one business week is required for videography requests. Videography requests also require the customer to have the necessary appearance release form completed by any non-Champlain students/faculty/staff being featured (submit to Lyle King at lyle@champlain.edu).

How do I get access to the video editing suites/radio station/audio suites/sound stage?

Students may request ID card swipe access to these locations through this online form. Contact Amy St. Louis astlouis@champlain.edu with questions about the form.

When are the labs open?

  • MIC 2nd Floor Regular Hours: M-Th: 7:30am-Midnight, F: 7:30am-10pm, Sat: 10am-10pm, Sun:10am-Midnight
  • MIC Summer Hours: M-Th 8:30am-10pm, F: 8:30am-5pm, Sat 12pm-5pm, Sun 1pm-9pm
  • Hauke: Open until midnight
  • Foster: Open 24 hours
  • GBTC: Open 24 hours
  • Perry Barn: Open 24 hours

How do I activate my Champlain account?

To activate your account, go to welcome.champlain.edu. From there you can follow instructions to activate MyChamplain.

I’m locked out of my account! What do I do?

If you get locked out, the account will automatically unlock in thirty minutes. Contact the Helpdesk for further assistance.

How do I connect to wireless?

How do I get Mymail on my phone?

Blackberry, Blackberry Storm, and IPhone users, visit our tutorial for instructions. Otherwise, contact the Helpdesk for assistance.

Why can’t I torrent?

The Higher Education Opportunity Act blocks peer to peer sharing in colleges, making it illegal to torrent on campus. However, Linux distributions have been white listed and are legal to download.

Where can I get help with a computer, printer, scanner, on campus?
